What you do in between
AO: Boneyard
When: 01/16/2023
QIC: Zohan
PAX (11): Cox, Dinghy, FannyPack, Feathers, Mater, Reboot, Speedo, Trebek, Zohan, Unplugged [FNG], Brownie
Preamble:
I checked the temp’ as usual before getting dressed. 34 feels like 26. Put on long tights, short pants, a short sleeved shirt, a long sleeved shirt and a jacket. Also had ready a warm hat and gloves. First person I see at the parking lot is Brownie, wearing shorts and a short sleeved T-shirt. That man has an internal combustion engine a league above anyone else I know, which probably explains how he’s always the gazelle. Respect.
Warm-O-Rama:
Seeing veteran faces I started with a short half-assed disclaimer and a mosey in the parking lot. Turned around for a Bernie and saw someone new joining us – we have an FNG. Regrouped next to the pavilion and started the disclaimer anew.
SSH, Hillbillies, Windmills, Squats and Moroccan Night Clubs.
The Thang:
Moseyed to the pavilion next to the pond where my Board of Pain was ready with 2 sets of exercises ready. The numbers of reps, being distinctly non-rounded, were sure to mean something but YHC waited with the explanation.
Set #1:
- 1 Run the loop
- 15 Burpees
- 19 Big Boy Situps
- 29 Merkins
- 44 Bobby Hurley (singles)
- 19 Freddie Mercury (alpha)
- 68 SSH
Step-ups for the 6, unless you’re Mater and then you do AMRAP Burpees to complete the daily challenge of 100 Burpees through January.
Set #2:
- 1 Run the loop
- 15 Bonnie Blairs (alpha)
- 19 Flatter Kicks (alpha)
- 29 Dips
- 44 LBCs
- 19 Derkins
- 68 Mountain Climbers (alpha)
Again step-ups for the 6.
YHC explained the numbers – MLK was born on 1/15/1929 and died on 4/4/1968. However, what matters are not the dates but everything the man did in between. And us, we have the opportunity – and responsibility – of creating a meaningful life in between the known date we were born and the unknown date of when we’ll die. So know your values and live by them.
Next we repeated the two sets, this time without waiting for the 6 in between. A few finished both sets and others were close but not quite there when YHC called recover.
We lunged from the pavilion to the bottom of the stairs, clapping under our knees with every steps for the extra suck. Regrouped at the top of the stairs for AYG (all you got) run to the flag.
Mary – Gas Pumpers, Rosalita and Monkey Humpers.
COT:
Fanny Pack was our six and he told us about himself and how he got named (check the Boneyard slack channel for the video) and we named our FNG Unplugged, as he is building acoustic guitars.
Prayers for Speedo’s son who was injured during a marathon, and still kudos for him for making almost 20 miles before it happened.
Naked-Man Moleskin:
Always a pleasure to lead this group!
