Preamble:

The Battle of Mogadishu, also known as Black Hawk Down, was fought on October 3-4, 1993 in Mogadishu, Somalia. The battle was between United States soldiers and Somali militiamen loyal to Somali General Mohamed Farrah Aidid. On October 3rd, Task Force Ranger boarded Army helicopters for what was expected to be a raid to capture two of Aidid’s lieutenants and other senior personnel. What resulted was Somali militiamen shot down two US Blackhawk helicopters, turning a planned raid into an unexpected rescue mission. When US and Pakistani relief arrived on the morning of 4 October to rescue the Ranger force, there was only enough room in the vehicles for the dead and severely wounded. The Rangers and others who could walk moved from the helicopter crash site to the Olympic Stadium on foot, all the while still under attack. The distance was about a mile, and this became known as “The Mogadishu Mile.” This workout which is dedicated to the fallen members of the 3rd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment; 1st SFOD-D (Delta Force); pilots and crews from the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Nightstalkers) and other Special Operations units, who went into the city of Mogadishu, Somalia to execute Operation ‘Gothic Serpent’.

Warm-O-Rama:

Extended warmup focused on legs and hips as YHC was quite sore and stiff after McLovin's BD at Galaxy the day before

The Thang:

4 Rounds for Time: 19 Kettlebell Ground-to-Overheads (53lb/44lb) 19 Kettlebell Front Squats (53lb/44lb) 19 Kettlebell Uneven Push-Ups (each hand=38 total) 400 meter Kettlebell Run (we used a lap around the gym at Custer park as a proxy for 400M and YHC will attest that it was plenty long)

COT:

Continued prayers for those impacted by Hurricane Helene across Florida, Georgia and North Carolina. Specific prayers for those in the forecasted path of Hurricane Milton, as YHC has a lot of family and friends who live up and down the west coast of FL.  Having grown up in FL, I am always a little calloused to these things growing up in the area, but this feels different

Naked-Man Moleskin:

With the unfortunate geopolitical madness of today we far too often forget significant events like Mogadishu and the contribution the had to both US peace, as well as (hopefully) impacting the local areas in a positive way.  It is important for us to constantly remind ourselves of the sacrifices our fellow countrymen have made over the years to protect the great and immense freedoms that we enjoy.
