Return to Popper’s Kitchen

AO: The Hooch

When: 2024-11-25

QIC: Popper

PAX (10): Animal, Birdie, Feathers, Flo, Maguire, Meatball, Spackle, Sunshine, Turk

Preamble:

Back for a second year, Popper's Kitchen offers a delicious Meat-and-Three dining experience to help the PAX get into the Thanksgiving spirit. This choose-your-own-adventure smorgasbord leaves no one hungry, as all are invited to belly up to the buffet as many times as they can stomach.

Warm-O-Rama:

Three PAX did a pre-run to work up an appetite. YHC gave the disclaimer then led a warm-up of SSH, WP, WM, IW, LBAC (fwd / bwd), MP IC. The PAX then coupon-carried to the awning to see what was on the menu.

The Thang:

Chef Popper had prepared a delightful menu of tortures (artfully illustrated on the white board) from which the PAX could choose their own adventure. Here's how it worked: Each trip through the buffet line, each PAX chooses a Meat-and-Three, and washes it down with a 20-curl aperitif, burp(ee)s 5 times, and takes a Turkey Trot to the theater and back. Similar to a gluten-free tag on specific menu items, Popper's Kitchen tagged certain coupon-centric menu items with a superscript insignia (II) to indicate it would be served with "Grey Coupon". Yum, yum, get you some! Meat (choose 1, 25 reps apiece)
  • Carolina Dry(-aged Ribeye) Docks
  • (Gobbler) Goblet Squats (II)
  • American (Honey Baked) Hammer (II)
Sides (choose 2, 25 reps apiece)
  • Squat Potato (serves 2) (II)
  • Overhead (Cornbread D)Press(ing) (II)
  • (Cran)-BearCrawl(-y Sauce), alpha count steps
  • Mak(& Cheese)tar N'Diaye's
  • Hand-Release Mer(Corn Souffle)
  • (Giblet Gravy) Boat-to-Canoe
Dessert / Drinks (choose 1, 25 reps apiece)
  • Gas Pump(kin)er (Pie)
  • Hot Apple Turnover
  • (Cranberry) Mule Kicks
Wash It Down With (Do all of the below)
  • 20 Curls (II) - bc we can't stop the hand-to-mouth motion of stuffing our faces!
  • 5 Burpees - bc a burp helps the food go down better
  • Turkey Trot - Mosey to the theater and back
The PAX went at their own pace, each mixing-and-matching menu items to their hearts' and bellies' content multiple times over. All were satisfied and none left hungry. Some had to loosen the belt or let out the stretchy pants a little by the end of the meal. We ate until 6:12am, did a few minutes of Mary, and Popper's Kitchen closed.

COT:

Coming attractions:
  • Hot n Special 5k (Thanksgiving morning 11/28, deets on Hooch Slack)
  • Maguire fire pit (Dec 13 or 14)
  • Santa Ruck (Dec 14)
  • F3 holiday party (Dec 20, RSVP to Feathers' evite on Slack)
Prayers for work pipelines to be filled, for Feathers' brother Ken in late-stage cancer, and for hearts filled with gratitude. After all this focus on food put a grumbly in our tumbly, three PAX went to Waffle House for a post-beatdown breakfast.

Naked-Man Moleskin:

Thanksgiving gets more special to YHC with each passing year. This beatdown is a natural expression of YHC's enthusiasm for high-quality, high-variety foods to enjoy in the company of friends and family. My heart is full of gratitude for these PAX who make me stronger and give me the opportunity to return the favor.
