Preamble:
Unlike my M and I disagreeing about when our first date was, records show this date was my 2nd anniversary since my first BD (led by Birdie at The Hooch). In honor of growing up in age but not much in the way of mindset, I compiled a few favorites from the beloved annual Field Day at Leroy (Go Bears!).
Warm-O-Rama:
Warmup
SSH
Weed Pickers
Willie Mays Hayes
Toy Soldier
CHS
Merkin
Popper’s Lower body stretch
The Thang:
Hobbit Hill & Slide
Partner performed exercise while other partner bear crawl up the hill and slid down slide. Popper made sure to entertain with his dismount and barrel roll from the slide. ‘Tis but a flesh wound
Round 1 – air press
Round 2 – merkin
Round 3 – copperhead squat
Field day
YHC has many fond memories and a few scars of Field Day in elementary school. So I thought to myself, Self: “Why not make some new memories and limit the scars.” It did not disappoint.
Partner workout start with 10 then increase by 5 until 4 laps completed
Station 1: LBC
MOT: Wheel barrow races
Station 2: Bonnie Blair
MOT: Hop on one leg or modify with lunge walk
Station 3: Derkin
MOT: Frog jump
After we made our way through the first part of field day with minimal injuries, we mosey’d to back area & split up into two groups for pull ups and burning our calves on the ropes until time expired.
COT:
Believing God for a clear report on Maguire’s foot and also for HIPAA’s father in law to be healed who recently experienced cardiac issues.
NLB 9/23 – sign the waiver and donate to cover food
Naked-Man Moleskin:
Another meaningful BD for me as QIC, considering it’s my 2nd anniversary. While I began F3 on this date two years prior, it wasn’t until December 2022 when I realized just how much I needed it and a few months into this year, that I submitted to the fact that I would be a shell of a man without it. I remain grateful always for the impact of these men on me as a husband, father and friend. F3 is a community of men that selflessly provides the nutrients and sustenance that one needs, whether knowingly or unknowingly, and the challenges we embrace as a group bring the necessary balance of what happens in our private lives. One cannot lead others without first leading yourself. I’m better at both because of F3.
These words from Bonhoeffer in Life Together sum it all up: “Let him who cannot be alone beware of community… Let him who is not in community beware of being alone… Each by itself has profound perils and pitfalls. One who wants fellowship without solitude plunges into the void of words and feelings, and the one who seeks solitude without fellowship perishes in the abyss of vanity, self-infatuation and despair.”
