2025 Running of the Barkley 5K

Preamble:

Year number 6 of the running of the Barkley 5K at The Widowmaker.  a group of 19 hardy souls arrived to test themselves against the test that no one has ever finished. After directions and breaking into teams it was 7:00 and the teams were off.

The Thang:

The Barkley 5K is not a 5 K. It is a loop around the park that is defined by points on a map given to the participants. Each team navigates their own way around the park to 7 hidden books marked on the map by 7 red dots.  The books are off trail and the participants have to find each book and rip out the page that corresponds to their team number.  Showing back up at the flag with 7 pages proves that all 7 spots were reached.  Each book is in a plastic bag that has an exercise on it for that stop. Each team member has to complete the exercise before moving on to the next book.  5 laps equals a completed race. The first place team this year finished 2 laps.

This year the shortest route between all 7 books was 1.67 miles. Plus 64 reps of each exercise as you run the route.
